We could easily find benefits and shortfalls of using Radius Server for AAA in our environment, but if we need to share it with a newbie its hard. Someone new in security world would not be able to understand all heavy terms introduced in Radius AAA. So if you planning to understand and use Radius AAA solution, you could just look for benefits it provides compared to your current infrastructure. I have listed few practical benefits here:
1. If you need mobile users to authenticate from multiple locations or even if you got multiple offices, you don't want to manage multiple databases with user information. So use Radius AAA server for all users database, and every location can just use this one solution for AAA problems.
2. If you got multiple devices to manage in infrastructure: routers, switches, etc, then you don't want to create login IDs on each device individually. Use Radius as a solution for this too.
